How much of your merchandise is sourced locally?
We are deeply committed to the Michigan food system. Currently, about 75% of our merchandise comes directly from local producers in the region.
Who are some of your key local vendor partners?
We personally meet with and source from many fantastic local partners, including Barden’s Farm Market, Jake’s Country Meats, Evergreen Lane Creamery, Bluegold Organic Farm, Veritas Estate Winery, Sticky Spoons Jam and Retro Bakery, and many more.
Do you offer options for special diets (e.g., vegan, gluten-free)?

Michigan Product Sourcing
How do I know the products are genuinely local and from Michigan?
We are committed to transparency. Approximately 75% of our merchandise is sourced directly from Michigan producers. We personally visit our farms, like Gold Coast Farms and Bennett Farms, and our vendor pages on our website () include profiles on each partner, so you know exactly where your food comes from.
Do you sell products from the Michigan Upper Peninsula (UP)?
Yes! We stock specialty items from across the state. For example, we feature smoked fish products, like whitefish, sourced through our partnership with Jake’s Country Meats, who works with processors like Massey Fish Company in St. Ignace, UP, ensuring we offer high-quality Great Lakes catches.
Can I find specific Michigan dairy products, like local milk or cheese?
Absolutely. We carry a variety of Michigan-made dairy, including high-quality products from Evergreen Lane Creamery and Palozzolo’s Artisan Dairy. We often highlight which local dairy farms supply our fresh whole milk.
Are your prepared meals made using local Michigan ingredients?
Yes, our new line of grab-and-go prepared meals prioritizes local sourcing. We use ingredients from our farmer partners, like fresh produce from Bluegold Organic Farm and meats from Jake’s Country Meats, ensuring that your healthy meal directly supports Michigan agriculture.
Do you stock local beverages, like Michigan-made wine or coffee?
We feature the best of Michigan’s craft beverages. Our selection includes wines from local estates like Veritas Estate Winery and often includes unique syrups from Michigan producers like Precision Syrups for our coffee bar, ensuring a full local experience.
What seasonal Michigan items should I look for?
Our inventory changes with the Michigan seasons! In the summer, you’ll find fresh berries and vine-ripe tomatoes from Barden’s Farm Market; in the fall, we shift to local apples, squash, and root vegetables. Check our Products page or our social media for current seasonal availability.
Our Mission, Health & Story
Why did Haven Market start, and who is the founder?
Haven Market was founded by Michelle O’Neil, who previously worked as a Hospice nurse and nutritionist. She was motivated by a desire to provide the South Haven community with the high-quality, local food options her family valued, and to fill a void she saw in the downtown area.
Why the strong focus on healthy eating and whole foods?
Michelle’s experience as a nurse, where she witnessed a distressing rise in diseases, particularly gastrointestinal illnesses, among young people, inspired her mission. She believes strongly in the power of natural fats and glucose sources from locally grown, nutrient-rich foods to improve community wellness.
How do you ensure the quality of your products?
We are different because we have a deep knowledge and personal connection to our products. Michelle personally meets with farmers and thoroughly researches their practices to ensure we offer only the most nutritious and responsibly produced food available.
Is Haven Market a family business?
Absolutely! We are a family and friends venture, supported by Michelle, her husband John, their three boys, and their long-time best friend. The business was funded by their life savings, demonstrating a deep, personal belief in the mission.
